Hwange Central residents have started receiving relief rice donated by the People’s Republic of China through the Government of Zimbabwe, with distribution now underway across the constituency.
The consignment is aimed at supporting vulnerable members of the community, including widows, orphans, people with disabilities and other households in need.
Hwange Central received a total allocation of three tonnes of rice. The donation was packaged into 60 bags of 50kg each.
In a meeting held last week , the majority of Councillors under the Hwange Local Board met with the Hon. Member of Parliament for Hwange Central, Fortune Daniel Molokele, and agreed on a distribution formula for the constituency.
According to the agreed formula, each of the 15 Ward Councillors received three bags weighing 150kg to facilitate distribution within their wards.
The 5 Proportional Representation Women Councillors were allocated two bags each weighing 100kg, while the Office of the MP received five bags weighing 250kg for constituency support programmes.
Hon. Molokele said residents who believe they qualify for assistance under the vulnerable groups category should approach their Ward Councillor to be considered for inclusion on the beneficiaries list.
The distribution process is being coordinated through ward structures to ensure the rice reaches intended beneficiaries timeously.
