The Emakhandeni Luveve Constituency Development Funds Committee on Friday, 3rd of July 2026, officially handed over a new solar powered borehole to the community of Luveve 5 in Ward 11 of Emakhandeni Luveve Constituency. The event was attended by community members, local leadership, and was led by Hon. Bajila, Member of Parliament for Emakhandeni Luveve Constituency.
The borehole was drilled and equipped using funds allocated under the 2025 Constituency Development Fund. The project is part of broader efforts to improve access to clean and reliable water for residents in the constituency. With solar power driving the system, the facility is expected to provide a sustainable water source and reduce the challenges that many households in Luveve 5 have faced around water shortages.
Speaking at the handover, Hon. Bajila emphasised the importance of community ownership.
“This borehole belongs to you, the people of Luveve 5. Government and the CDF Committee have done our part to provide the infrastructure. It is now up to the community to ensure its security and maintenance so that it serves you and the generations to come,” Hon. Bajila said.
He urged residents to work together to protect the borehole from vandalism and to put in place systems for routine upkeep.
“Let us guard this asset jealously. Water is life, and a solar powered system can serve us for many years if we take care of it,” he added.
On the same day, Hon. Bajila also distributed rice to 210 families from Luveve 5. The food distribution forms part of a national government program in which rice was allocated to all 350 Members of Parliament for distribution to communities across the country. The aim is to cushion households against food insecurity and provide support to vulnerable families.
“Government has entrusted us with this rice to reach families that need it most. I am happy that today 210 families in Luveve 5 will receive this support,” Hon. Bajila said.
Hon. Bajila said the distribution in Luveve 5 follows a similar exercise conducted last week, where rice was handed over to eleven primary schools within Emakhandeni Luveve Constituency. The same consignment also benefited institutions that care for vulnerable groups, including Entembeni Old People’s Home, Thembiso Children’s Home, and Percy Hostels.
He thanked the CDF Committee, community leaders, and all stakeholders who worked to make Friday’s handover and distribution possible.
“We remain committed to working with government, local structures, and residents to deliver sustainable development projects and social support where it is needed most in Emakhandeni Luveve,” Hon. Bajila said.
The residents of Luveve 5 welcomed both the new water facility and the food assistance, noting that the two interventions will go a long way in improving their daily livelihoods.
