The dramatic, eight-year-long legal battle over the Ndebele kingship has officially come to an end. Prince (Dr) Peter Zwide Kalanga Khumalo has officially withdrawn his High Court case contesting the coronation of Bulelani Collen Lobengula Khumalo.
This major move brings the long-standing succession dispute out of the courtroom and straight back into the hands of the Khumalo royal clan.

Why the Case Was Withdrawn, speaking on the landmark decision, Prince Zwide, a direct descendant of Nyamande (the son of King Lobengula who succeeded him in 1896), shared that the decision wasn’t about winning or losing, but about the bigger picture.

He highlighted two major reasons for stepping back from the March 2018 court challenge:
Respect for the Throne: Prioritizing the sovereign framework of the monarch institution over personal or legal disputes.
Intergenerational Equity: Respecting future generations by ensuring the legacy of the Ndebele nation is built on solid, undisputed ground.

A Long Wait for a King, the Ndebele nation has been remarkably patient, having lived without an official king since December 4, 1893.
Prince Zwide emphasized that the focus now shifts toward rebuilding and honoring the system started by their ancestors. By clearing the legal roadblocks, the path is finally open for a king to truly lead the nation forward with proper traditional backing.

Moving Forward Together, while some may see this as a victory for one side, the royal clan views it as a win for everyone, both those who supported the court case and those who opposed it. The goal now is to look past the division, celebrate cultural heritage, and allow the traditional leaders to do what they do best: lead the community with dignity.
