The City of Bulawayo has received a significant boost to its waste management efforts following a donation of 50 refuse bins from Altcom Private Limited in partnership with Highlanders Football Club.

The donation was handed over on Friday at the conclusion of the National Clean Up Campaign and commemorations of World Environment Day for Bulawayo Province.

The event marked the end of a coordinated clean-up exercise under the National Clean Up Campaign, during which 48 sites across the province were cleaned with the participation of government officials, churches, and other stakeholders.

His Worship Senator David Coltart, Mayor of Bulawayo, received the donation on behalf of the City and commended Altcom Private Limited for its continued commitment to environmental sustainability, noting that this was the company’s fourth consecutive donation to Bulawayo.
He encouraged residents to cultivate a strong culture of cleanliness, emphasising that while the City continues to provide bins, long-term success depends on responsible civic behaviour.

He pointed to global examples such as Osaka, Japan, which remains remarkably clean despite having relatively few street bins.

Senator Coltart also praised Highlanders Football Club for partnering in the initiative, highlighting the club’s influence within the community and its potential role in promoting environmental stewardship among its supporters.

Highlanders Football Club Chief Executive Officer, Mr Denzel Mkandla, said maintaining a clean city is essential for tourism growth and can also contribute to the creation of local employment opportunities.

On behalf of Altcom Private Limited, Mr T Moyo said the company, as a business operating in Bulawayo, sees it as important to actively contribute to the cleanliness and sustainability of the city.
