Barbourfields Stadium, the hallowed grounds of Highlanders FC, is about to get a cultural makeover
As Bulawayo is gearing up to host the National Culture Month celebrations tomorrow, with President Mnangagwa set to preside over the event at Barbourfields Stadium.

The city is expected to come alive with thousands of people from across the country converging to celebrate Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage.

The event is also promising to be a vibrant showcase of traditional and contemporary dance, music, and comedy, with over 120 artistes from the Matabeleland region set to perform.

The programme features prominent creative groups such as Matojeni Melo Maniacs, Gog’Bekezela, and Iyasa, among others.

This year’s celebrations coincide with the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, observed annually on 21 May, and are themed “Cultural Diversity: Advancing Vision 2030”.

The event ties in with the Government’s development agenda, with culture and heritage identified as key drivers of national identity, social cohesion, and economic growth.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture,in a press statement Mr Nicholas Moyo, said Bulawayo is a fitting host for the national event, given its strong cultural identity.

“Bulawayo being chosen to host the national Culture Month celebrations is a strong recognition of the city’s rich cultural heritage and its contribution to the growth of Zimbabwe’s arts sector,” he said.

The event is expected to bring economic benefits to the city, particularly in the hospitality and tourism sectors.

He further added that thousands are expected to attend the event.

“People will be coming from across the country, and even ambassadors from different nations are expected to attend. It’s an opportunity for Bulawayo to remain true to its identity and come alive during the celebrations,” Mr Moyo added.
