The Zimbabwe Republic Police Hwange District has reaffirmed its commitment to professional, accountable, and community-driven policing following the re-launch of its Client Service Charter in a ceremony attended by senior government and civic leaders.

Hwange Local Board Chairperson Cllr. Peterson Ncube, Town Secretary Mr. Ndumiso Mdlalose, and Ward 10 Councillor Samuel Barrakki Tshuma were among the dignitaries who attended the event.

Their presence reflected the importance of collaboration between local government and law enforcement in promoting public safety and service delivery.

The re-launch served as a public restatement of the standards of service that members of the public can expect from the Zimbabwe Republic Police. These include courteous conduct, timely response to reports, transparency in operations, and accessible channels for feedback and complaints. ZRP officials said the Charter is intended to guide the daily interactions between police officers and citizens and to strengthen trust between the service and the communities it serves.

Speaking at the event, representatives of the Zimbabwe Republic Police noted that effective policing cannot be achieved in isolation.

The Charter reaffirms the organization’s commitment to delivering professional, accountable, and people-centred policing while also strengthening partnerships with stakeholders and the community. The emphasis was placed on the need for open communication, mutual respect, and shared responsibility in addressing crime and maintaining order.

The ceremony also highlighted the importance of collaboration between local authorities, law enforcement agencies, and residents. Stakeholders agreed that issues such as stock theft, road safety, drug and substance abuse, and domestic violence require a coordinated response that brings together police, council, traditional leaders, and community members. Regular engagement was identified as a key tool for identifying challenges early and developing solutions that reflect local needs.

Hwange Local Board Chairperson Cllr. Peterson Ncube commended the Zimbabwe Republic Police for the initiative and reiterated council’s support for efforts aimed at creating a safer district. He stated that Hwange Local Board remains committed to working closely with all stakeholders to foster a safe, secure, and well-governed community for the benefit of all residents.

He further noted that a secure environment is essential for attracting investment, supporting business growth, and improving the overall quality of life in Hwange.

Town Secretary Mr. Ndumiso Mdlalose and Ward 10 Councillor Samuel Barrakki Tshuma also expressed support for the Charter and called on residents to take an active role in community safety.

They encouraged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement, report crime through proper channels, and participate in community policing forums.

The Client Service Charter outlines specific expectations for both the police and the public. For the police, it commits officers to professionalism, impartiality, efficiency, and respect in dealing with members of the public. For the community, it encourages timely reporting of incidents, provision of accurate information, and constructive engagement with law enforcement.

It also provides clarity on procedures for lodging complaints, ensuring that grievances against officers can be addressed transparently and fairly.

The re-launch is part of a broader national effort by the Zimbabwe Republic Police to modernise service delivery and align operations with constitutional values.

Similar charters are being rolled out across the country to promote accountability and to give citizens a clear understanding of the services they are entitled to receive.

Community members who attended the Hwange District event welcomed the re-launch and said it was a positive step toward building confidence in the police.
Many noted that when the public understands what to expect from officers, and when officers understand community concerns, it becomes easier to work together to prevent crime.

As Hwange District continues to grow economically and socially, maintaining law and order through partnership will remain critical. The Zimbabwe Republic Police has called on residents to familiarise themselves with the contents of the Client Service Charter and to support ongoing initiatives that promote safety, transparency, and quality service delivery.
