Kwela Initiative founder and Skyz Metro FM presenter Asaph Afrika has paid tribute to rising Iminyela hip hop artiste BobSe7en, who died in the early hours of Tuesday, July 1, following a short illness.
BobSe7en, regarded as one of Bulawayo’s promising young hip hop talents, died at Mpilo Central Hospital.
Announcing the sad news, Asaph Afrika described BobSe7en as one of the brightest young artistes he had encountered this year through the popular 16 Bars programme on Skyz Metro FM.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Iminyela artiste BobSe7en.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends and everyone whose life he touched,” said Asaph.
He said the 16 Bars platform had the privilege of showcasing BobSe7en’s talent and passion for hip hop, adding that the young artiste made a lasting impression on everyone who worked with him.
“We had the privilege of getting to know BobSe7en through his outstanding appearances on 16 Bars, where he shared his talent and passion for hip hop with us.
“His contribution to the culture will not be forgotten. May his soul rest in peace,” he added.
The family confirmed said the family would announce burial arrangements in due course.
The death of BobSe7en has sent shockwaves across Bulawayo’s hip hop community, with fellow artistes, fans and industry stakeholders mourning the loss of a talented musician whose career showed great promise.
BobSe7en’s passing marks a significant loss for the city’s growing hip hop scene, where he had begun to establish himself as one of the emerging voices of the new generation.
His legacy, many believe, will continue to inspire aspiring artistes in Bulawayo and beyond.
