What was meant to be a cozy evening at Middys Coffee Shop almost didn’t happen, thanks to a heavy downpour and rumbling thunderstorms that swept across the city. But when it comes to faith, fellowship, and good vibes, not even bad weather can stop the people of Alpha. The highly anticipated Alpha Launch was moved last minute to King’s Kraal, and what a blessing in disguise that turned out to be!
Despite the cold, about 80 spirited guests showed up, creating an atmosphere that was nothing short of magical. The night kicked off with high energy, as MCs Slet and Mzuks kept the crowd laughing, vibing, and “doing the things” with their witty banter.
On stage, Zarae stole hearts with her infectious anthem “Hatitongwe neFlue”, meaning “we’re not controlled by flu”, a perfect metaphor for resilience and self-determination. Then came Tynoe, whose dance moves had everyone wishing they could move like him, while Frank Chirisa, affectionately dubbed “Zimbabwe’s most handsome comedian,” had the crowd in stitches with his jokes and playful charisma.
Later in the evening, Gray and Belinda Marsh led a heartfelt group discussion with participants from a previous Alpha course. They shared personal stories of transformation, laughter, and rediscovery, a testament to how Alpha is touching lives across the community. Zarae closed out the night with smooth ballads that brought warmth to the chilly air.
What started as a potential rainout turned into a night to remember, one filled with light, laughter, and connection.
For those unfamiliar, Alpha is an 8-week free experience built around open conversations about life, faith, beliefs, and culture, all in a relaxed, non-judgmental space. Each session begins with a shared meal, followed by a short talk or video, and ends with honest group discussions. No preaching, no pressure, just people connecting over real conversations.
Gray and Belinda expressed deep gratitude to everyone who helped make the launch possible.
