Bulilima District has placed agriculture and community development firmly at the centre of its growth agenda following a three-day agricultural expo that brought together farmers, businesses, exhibitors and development stakeholders at Madlambudzi High School from 5–7 August 2026.

Held under the theme “Growing Today, Sustaining Tomorrow,” the Bulilima District Agricultural Expo celebrated the district’s agricultural potential while providing a platform for farmers to showcase their products, exchange knowledge, and explore opportunities for market access and enterprise development.

The expo featured a diverse display of livestock, crops, vegetables, fruits and poultry, alongside farmers’ markets, exhibition competitions and demonstrations of agricultural innovation.
Beyond showcasing production, the event highlighted the ingenuity and resilience of local farmers, as well as the importance of sustainable agricultural practices in strengthening rural livelihoods.

For Bulilima, the gathering was more than an agricultural exhibition. It provided an opportunity for farmers and stakeholders to build networks, share practical knowledge, and connect agricultural production with markets and emerging business opportunities.

The emphasis on sustainability also reflected the growing need for communities to balance increased agricultural production with the responsible use of natural resources, ensuring that farming remains productive for future generations.

Infrastructure Investment Strengthens Local Service Delivery
the agricultural showcase was complemented by another significant development milestone for the district, as the Bulilima Rural District Council commissioned a range of assets and infrastructure aimed at strengthening its capacity to serve communities.

Among the commissioned assets was a new motorised grader, expected to enhance road construction and maintenance across the district. Improved road infrastructure is particularly critical for rural communities, where reliable transport networks directly influence access to schools, health facilities, markets, and agricultural supply chains.

The council also commissioned expanded office facilities, providing additional workspace and creating a more efficient environment for administrative operations and service delivery.

To strengthen community engagement, councillors’ motorbikes were also commissioned. This increased mobility is expected to enable councillors to reach communities more effectively and maintain closer engagement with residents across the district.

A dump trailer was also added to the council’s operational fleet, supporting maintenance activities and ongoing development projects.

Collectively, these investments reflect a deliberate effort to strengthen the institutional and physical infrastructure required to support development across Bulilima.

The combination of the agricultural expo and the council’s infrastructure investments presents a broader picture of a district seeking to link productive agriculture with strengthened local governance and improved service delivery.

As farmers work to expand production and access markets, improved road networks, enhanced council operations, and stronger community engagement will provide a critical foundation for inclusive rural development.
