A new state-of-the-art helipad, built at a cost of US$2.5 million, was officially opened in Victoria Falls on Wednesday 29th of October 2025, marking a significant milestone in the city’s tourism industry.
The facility, built by Zambezi Helicopter Company, a partnership between two leading tour operators in the city, is expected to boost tourism in the area. The City of Victoria Falls partnered in the construction of a new modern access road, about 800 metres to the helipad.
The official opening was attended by Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi, and Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Richard Moyo.
Minister Mhona informed media, that the project highlights the symbiotic relationship between government and the private sector, and gives confidence to investors.
“It resonates very well with the mantra of His Excellency Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa that Zimbabwe is open for business,” he said.
Tourism Minister Rwodzi said the development will help Victoria Falls receive recognition as a top tourist destination, such as the recent naming as a must-visit destination for 2025 by Forbes magazine.
“This new infrastructure is speaking volumes in terms of confidence that can be invested in Zimbabwe, let alone in Victoria Falls,” she said.
The helipad is expected to create jobs, enhance tourism, and improve emergency response capabilities in the province. Zambezi Helicopters now employs 60 people, up from just five at inception.
Shearwater Adventures CEO Mr Allan Roberts said the facility is world-class and will take tourism facilities and aviation facilities to a new standard.
“We really wanted to build something which would take us into the next chapter of our growth and add value to the tourism industry and try and establish Zimbabwe as a world-class tourism destination,” he said.
