The achievements of Matabeleland-based artists at the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMAs) have garnered widespread acclaim across Zimbabwe and Southern Africa.

The annual ceremony has once again proven to be a unifying force, bridging cultural and tribal divides within the region.

From the nominations to the main event, artists from Matabeleland delivered standout performances, making history in the process. Notable nominees included Brightman Dlamini, recognised for Outstanding Male Designer of the Year, and Yollanda Ngwenya, nominated for Outstanding Female Designer of the Year.

The evening belonged to Matabeleland, with regional artists securing top honours.

Thandolwenkosi Nkiwane won the Outstanding Actress award for her role in the award-winning play ‘Ipi Intombi’, while legendary artist Nkululeko Innocent Dube received the Arts Personality Award. Additionally, DJ Nitefreak (Bhekinkosi Mabhena), originally from Bulawayo, took home the Outstanding Artist in the Diaspora Award.

The live performances were electrifying, with award-winning gospel artist Snowy opening the event by singing the national anthem. Sku made a triumphant return, performing her classic hits to a sea of singing fans, proving her enduring popularity. The highlight of the evening was FAB G’s performance of ‘Imali yesigweja’, which had the audience on their feet and grooving to the rhythm.

The 24th edition of the NAMAs was a resounding success, showcasing the rich talent and cultural diversity of the nation.
