The City of Kings and Queens is taking a united stand against drug abuse, with politicians and religious leaders teaming up to tackle the growing crisis.

In separate campaigns held last week across Wards 21 and 22, community leaders came together to engage residents in Tshabalala, Sizinda, and Nkulumane. Among them were MP Ostallos Siziba, Councillor Bruce Mmeli Moyo, and faith leaders from various denominations.

“Leading the charge against drug abuse in our community. In Ward 21, we engaged young people and residents in a campaign to combat drug and substance abuse,” said Siziba.

He noted that many youths turn to drugs as an escape from unemployment and daily struggles. “We took it upon ourselves to raise awareness about this scourge, which has claimed many young lives,” he added, applauding churches and residents’ associations for their active role.

Meanwhile in Ward 22, Councillor Moyo echoed the same message:
“Drug abuse is a pandemic threatening Nkulumane and Zimbabwe’s youth, caused by unemployment, economic struggle, and frustration. With help from churches, community leaders, and the business sector, we reminded our young people that drugs are not the solution. We need sober minds to fix our nation.”

Bulawayo remains one of the cities hardest hit by the drug crisis, with calls growing louder for urgent community-led solutions.
