A group of young innovators from Bulawayo is preparing to take Zimbabwe’s name beyond its borders, with Masiyephambili College set to represent the country at the Pan African Robotics Competition (PARC) in Senegal.
The school’s participation is an opportunity for the learners to showcase their creativity, technical abilities and growing interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) on a continental stage.
To the students, the journey is about more than travelling to another country. It is an opportunity to put their knowledge into practice, exchange ideas with young innovators from across Africa and demonstrate what Zimbabwe’s next generation can achieve in the field of robotics.
The team’s achievement has also attracted recognition from the local community. Ward 5 Councillor Nkomo, under whose ward Masiyephambili College is located, wished the learners well as they prepared for the continental competition.
Councillor Nkomo said: “Well done,Masiyephambili School and all the best in representing our Ward, our city and our nation,”.
Taking part in an international competition gives the learners a chance to experience how young people elsewhere are approaching technology and solving everyday challenges through innovation. Such exposure can broaden their thinking, build confidence and encourage them to pursue careers in engineering, programming and other technology-driven fields.
The team’s participation is also a proud moment for Ward 5 and Bulawayo’s education sector, highlighting the importance of creating opportunities for learners to explore fields that are shaping the future.
Beyond the competition, the experience of representing their country and interacting with fellow participants from across Africa will be an important part of their journey.
