Bulawayo’s gospel music scene has another achievement to celebrate after a local group brought home the Best Acappella Award from the Ingoma Awards in South Africa on 29 August 2026.

The group, whose members are based in Bulawayo, was the only Zimbabwean act represented at the awards, turning what was already an important regional appearance into a proud moment for the city and the country.

Their winning album, Evidence of the Kingdom, is rooted in faith and vocal harmony, but its journey has taken the Bulawayo-based musicians beyond Zimbabwe’s borders and onto a regional stage where they competed for recognition among artists from across Southern Africa. For the group, the victory was not simply about collecting an award. It was about seeing a project born from their musical and spiritual convictions receive recognition outside Zimbabwe.

Announcing the achievement on social media, the group expressed its gratitude to everyone who had supported them throughout the journey.

“We are deeply honoured to announce that our album, Evidence of the Kingdom, won the Best A Cappella Award at the Ingoma Awards in South Africa!” they said.

The significance of representing Zimbabwe was particularly important to the musicians.

“As the only Zimbabwean group represented at this prestigious event, we carried our nation, our sound and our faith with immense pride,” the group said.

That sense of representation gave the achievement a significance beyond the members themselves. Coming from Bulawayo, a city with a rich musical heritage, the group carried with them not only their own artistic identity but also the sound and aspirations of a community that continues to produce musicians capable of reaching audiences beyond the city.

The group also made a point of acknowledging the people who have supported their music from the beginning.

“This victory belongs to every person who has listened, supported, prayed and walked this journey with us,” they said.

It was a reminder that behind every award is often a much longer story of rehearsals, recording sessions, performances, faith and the people who continue to believe in an artist even before the wider industry takes notice.

For the Bulawayo based musicians, Evidence of the Kingdom appears to have been as much a statement of faith as it was a musical project.

“Above all, we give glory to God,” they said, describing the album as “more than an album” and “a testimony”.

Winning Best A Cappella has now added another dimension to that testimony.

The achievement also places Bulawayo firmly within a wider regional gospel conversation, demonstrating how musicians working from the city can use their voices and their faith to build audiences and earn recognition across borders.

On 29 August, what began in Bulawayo travelled to South Africa and returned with regional recognition giving the city’s gospel community another reason to celebrate and proving once again that powerful music does not have to come from the biggest centres to make an impact.
