Bulawayo Theatre was electric with rhythm, rhyme, and raw talent as the Kwela Initiative presented the Sound of the City album showcase on Saturday, July 5.

The event backed by Next Level, Meridian, and the United States Embassy, proved to be a celebration of hip-hop, culture, and unity in the heart of the city.

The free-to-attend show was more than just a concert, it featured a powerful lineup of MCs and the stage was graced with artists including Asaph Afrika, Indigo Saint, Brintz, Curtis Dee Rovar, Fuel the Don, Nsizwa Black, and Noluntu J, among others.

From gritty bars to soulful flows, each performance illustrated a story about the city’s struggles and its unstoppable creative spirit. Producers like Leemzy Beatz, Mkbeats, and Canvus Ports laid the sonic foundation for the night, while guest acts such as NoHeeps, #ForTheCity, and Hip Hop Power Sessions added their own flair to the show.

The energy in the theatre was nothing short of electric, with Hip Hop Power Sessions bringing together dancers, wordsmiths, and music lovers from all corners of Bulawayo.

“Sound of the City” was not just an event, it was a movement which brought visibility to the city’s bubbling talent pool and served to remind us that hip-hop in Bulawayo is alive, thriving, and ready to make noise on a global stage.

Salutation to the Kwela Initiative for amplifying local voices and building platforms that matter. This is the kind of showcase that does not just entertain, it empowers.
